We sleep way in. We lunch at the hotel while the family goes to Ozzie’s – since going there would mean sitting in separate cars looking at each other — far too cold and windy for the authentic Ozzie’s picnic-table experience!
I bow out of an afternoon visit at the house — Carla takes Catherine over and I stay and get three blog days posted.
Lucky is happy with the company and I get a sense of accomplishment. Carla took the desired family portrait.
Then we watch Kings Speech with Carla while family dines at the inaccessible Europa restaurant — one of their favorite places. In Canada, public places like restaurants can still get away with not bothering to provide access. Boy, do we ever miss the ADA!! Laura is very concerned that we will feel left out, but for us it’s a gift not to have to go out in the cold. Tucson has made us ultra wimpy!! We order in a really fabulous meal and watch our movie without any pressure or discomfort.
Laura and Patrick slip away after dark and come to visit with us at the hotel. Carla teaches us to play with the Yahtzee game I bought for them at L. L. Bean — turns out she’s an expert from years of playing with her family. But I win! Patrick comes a close second. We leave the other two behind in a cloud of dust! Good fun.
Day 14 – St. Andrews to Halifax
Fabulous Easter Brunch at the Algonquin then a long drive to Halifax to pick up a rental car for Carla at the airport. Too late to get to the Harbour tonight, so we check into the sleaziest motel in Bedford. Clean but VERY basic!
Day 15 – Home at last!
Big grocery shopping stop at Pete’s Frootique, then out to the Valley, up over the north mountain and here we are at last! We get a sunshiny day to boot — almost unheard of lately, the locals tell us. Too busy to blog, but one more entry to come.
Glad to hear and see that you had a great trip. Welcome back to Nova Scotia!!!
Thank you Brenda. We’ll be in touch soon!
So close and yet so far! I used to live with Catherine in Halifax (summer of 1978) and am now just an hour from St Andrews. If I’d known she was there, we would have gone to visit!
